How to Find the Right Bus Spare Part Using Part Numbers

Ordering the wrong bus part costs time twice: once waiting for it, and again returning it. Most wrong orders happen for one reason. The part was described in words, like "brake valve for Higer", instead of by its number.

This guide shows where to find the numbers that matter and how to send an enquiry your supplier can answer in minutes.

The three numbers that identify a part

1. Vehicle model code. This tells the supplier the exact bus model and version, for example Higer KLQ6125B or Yutong ZK6122. You'll find it on the registration card, the chassis plate or in the owner's manual.

2. Chassis number (VIN). This shows the build year and specification of your bus. It is on the chassis plate, usually near the driver's door or in the engine bay.

3. Part number. This identifies the exact component, for example 35LQ1-11010-R for a Higer air dryer. It is stamped or printed on the old part, or listed in the parts catalogue.

The part number is the most useful of the three. If you have it, a supplier can usually confirm stock straight away.

Why similar-looking parts don't always fit

Bus manufacturers often change a part during a production run. The new version may have a different thread (for example M22×1.5 instead of M16×1.5), another connector, or a revised mounting point. Two valves can look the same in a photo and still not fit.

Engine and component brands add another layer. The same bus model may use a Cummins, Weichai or Yuchai engine, and a WABCO or another brand of brake valve. The engine or component brand changes which part you need.

What to do when the number has worn off

• Take clear photos of the part from several angles, including connectors, ports and mounting holes.
• Measure key dimensions such as length, diameter and thread size.
• Look for a brand logo, such as WABCO, Fleetguard, Gates or Sachs. The brand narrows the search a lot.
• Send the model code and chassis number so the supplier can check the catalogue for your build.
